LEAGUE: Now is the perfect time for Toowoomba to host another NRL team.

With the region’s junior players about to kick-off their 2020 season, Newtown’s Paul Dolley believes the presence of an NRL team would be a real “shot in the arm”.

“I think it would be perfect for Toowoomba, particularly our junior players,” he said.

“They’re about to start their season and being able to see their idols would be very inspirational for them.

“And it would not matter what team it was.

“Just the fact it’s an NRL team would be enough. everyone would get behind them.

“Juniors, seniors, the whole community would support the club.”

With Toowoomba offering itself as the perfect place for NRL teams to ride out the COVID-19 pandemic, Dolley believes there would be short and long-term benefits for the rugby league community.

“Hosting an NRL team or another NRL game would be great for Toowoomba,” he said.

“You only have to look at what the Gold Coast Titans and St George game did for us.

“For the players the ultimate goal is getting to play professionally in the NRL.

“Unfortunately there is a lot of talented blokes who do not get seen.

“Talented players with the right attitude and skills that miss out because the right people didn’t see them.

“There’s the potential for the TRL and its clubs to establish a link and a pathway that could mean more people are looking at us (the TRL).”
