RUGBY LEAGUE: A horror stretch of injuries has continued for local Downs players in the NRL at the weekend.

After Goondiwindi’s Ethan Lowe was forced to undergo surgery for a disc injury in his neck, Andrew McCullough is expected to miss the rest of the season as well.

The Dalby dummy-half, who has made an impression since joining Newcastle in 2020, suffered a hamstring tear after being awkwardly trapped after making a tackle against Canterbury on the wet McDonald Jones Stadium surface.

It was the start of an afternoon to forget for the Knights, with replacement hooker Connor Watson also leaving the field with injury in the loss to the Bulldogs.

They now sit in sixth on the ladder ahead of their trip to the Sunshine Coast to take on the Storm.

Brisbane’s woes continued once again, finding themselves on the back of a 46-8 thrashing from Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium.

Brodie Croft left an impression with a number of big hits, but ultimately it was the Broncos inability to score points that set them back.

Cory Paix played 57 minutes at hooker, finishing with 38 tackles.

The Broncos languish in 15th, with Cronulla coming to Brisbane this weekend.

Beau Fermor was left out of the Titans side that went down to Penrith 22-14 on the Gold Coast.

Ash Taylor had some nice touches at five-eighth, including a try assist, as the 14th-placed side almost caused an upset over the ladder leaders.

They face a tough task this weekend against the Sydney Roosters.
