RACING: Rex Lipp has trained winners at Ipswich and Warwick in the past week, and the Toowoomba trainer is hoping to keep the momentum going at Dalby today.
Lipp’s pair of juveniles Real Fine Wine and first-starter Bad Barista got the chocolates on Wednesday before Love Flies scored at big odds a day later at Allman Park.
Now he is pinning his hopes on sprinters Seclude and Supersonic Boom as Bunya Park takes the spotlight on the Downs.
Lipp said that a firm decision on whether Seclude would start or not in the Benchmark 55 Handicap (1000m) is yet to be made, however he expects a forward showing if they do back up after running fifth at Clifford Park on Tuesday.
“She didn’t handle the Toowoomba track at all,” Lipp said.
“She’s a shortcourse mare, but we’re trying to get her over a bit more distance.
“The barrier draw won’t help her much (barrier 13), but the beauty of the barrier at Dalby is that it’s from the 1000m chute with a near-straight run to the turn.
“If we start her she’ll be very competitive.”
Supersonic Boom can send Lipp home a winner in the final event of the program, the Benchmark 75 Handicap (1000m).
The four-year-old ran a respectable 10th at Doomben last start, and Lipp believes he will appreciate the drop in grade.
“At his last start he drew poorly and never had the pace to go forward and cross them,” he said.
“I’ve been quite pleased with how he has been going, and he pulled up exceptionally well since that day.
“We were going to run him at Ipswich but the track was a bit wet. I think he’ll run well at the trip.”
The six-race card at Dalby gets underway at 12.43pm, with the last to jump at 3.47pm.
