Hot Shots making the most of special rule in Club Glenvale Challenge supremacy

The HSR Hot Shots are building their Club Glenvale Challenge run on the back of strong defence and a key competition rule.

HOCKEY: The Hot Shots are getting a kick out of making their opponents pay on the scoreboard.

Sitting at the top of the Club Glenvale Challenge standings with an unblemished 3-0 record, the Hot Shots are building their success on one of the competition’s unique rules.

With every field goal scored, a bonus attempt in a shootout situation is awarded to the scorer, giving them the chance to turn their single goal into a double.

Last week the Hot Shots converted on four of their five field goals, helping them to reach a mammoth total of nine goals.

“It’s a really critical part of the competition and something that we always want to convert,” Hot Shots coach Ryan Williams said.

“It makes it that little bit more difficult for the opposition if they’re down by a couple of goals.

“When you get a penalty corner and you’re behind, you can’t really have a direct shot. You need to think differently about how to approach set plays.
“I think it’s a great addition to the game.”

They’ll get their chance to continue their unbeaten run against the in-form Farmers on Friday night.
