Hatch’s Lass primed for next post

THE impressive debut winner headlines a strong hand for the leading trainer at Clifford Park tomorrow night.

RACING: Just five runners will face up to the starter in the juvenile feature at Clifford Park tomorrow night, but there could be a handy type among them.

Kirra Lass makes her return to the track for trainer Lindsay Hatch after leaving an impression with her debut run.

Back in April at Ipswich, the filly sizzled around the sprint trip to score by 1 ¼ lengths, with both placegetters failing to miss a place from their subsequent six starts.

Hatch said she was primed for tomorrow night’s assignment, the Barrier Reef Pools QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap (870m), with better things on the horizon.

“She has spelled good and come back tremendous,” Hatch said.

“She had one jumpout which was pretty impressive. I’m very happy with her.

“Kirra Lass is a BOBS-eligible (NSW equivalent of QTIS). I’d like to think we can get through Saturday and things might open up.

“We might look at races on the Northern Rivers to take advantage of the BOBS bonus. I think she’ll make a lovely metro three-year-old.”

Octavian has been a model of consistency since joining the Hatch stable at the start of the year, and he believes the gelding will go close in the Caltex Benchmark 55 Handicap (1625m).

“The blinkers go back on him and he loves the mile,” he said.

“He seems well weighted and he’ll be very hard to beat.”

Roacci has again been tasked with a wide barrier (10) after drawing 12 of 12 on debut at the track on June 5.

The colt ran second on that occasion, and Hatch said he can go one better in the Queensland Electrical Solutions Maiden Handicap (1200m).

“He’s a promising horse that couldn’t have done any more in that first-up run,” he said.

“He’ll roll forward and sit in the first three or four I’d say.”

Hatch’s final hope comes in the form of Tough Times in the Get Out Stakes Class 3 Handicap (870m).

After making her debut with Hatch in 2018, the mare was then transferred to the Gary Duncan yard.

She is back over the range, and Hatch said he is delighted to have her back in the stable.
“She has ended up with clients of mine, the parents of (leading Brisbane jockey) Baylee Nothdurft, and is back in the stable,” he said.

“She’s a nice mare going forward and they’re good people that bought her.

“There looks to be plenty of pace in the race which will suit her.”

# CHINCHILLA will host a six-race card tomorrow, however the meeting will remain patron-free.

The program commences at midday, with the last to jump at 2.30pm.

The Open Handicap (1200m) is the feature event of the day, with the Jason Judge-trained Hard Stride lumped with the topweight of 64.5kg.
