MOTORSPORT : Ten years ago, Will Brown would've copped a "kick in the backside" for his current "behaviour".
Having recently acquired a new racing simulator, the future V8 Supercars star has been busy improving his skillset behind the wheel.
"It got here (Toowoomba) on the weekend, and I've probably spent about 10 hours a day practising since," Brown said.
"Ten years ago, if I was playing computer games for 10 hours a day, my mum would've given me a kick in the backside.
"Things are obviously different now, though. I'm trying to improve my skills, and we (Will and his parents) are having a bit of fun with it as well."
Brown's long stints behind the wheel are not all fun and games, though.
The 21-year-old is honing his skills ahead of his V8 Supercars Eseries debut for Pentrite Racing on Wednesday, April 15 (racing coverage starts at 7pm on Foxsports 506).
"Making my debut for Penrite in the Eseries is a bit different, but I'm no less excited," Brown said.
"I've never been much of a simulator guy, it's so different to normal racing.
"When you're in a car, you're experiencing and using so much more information - the vibrations coming up through the seat, the feedback in the steering wheel, the sights, sounds, even the smell of racing.
"When you're racing a simulator, it's mostly sight and little feedback in the steering wheel.
"This is still a fantastic opportunity, though, and I'm looking forward to it.
"I've put in some pretty big days to give myself the best chance - including some long sessions with the team's engineers to get the simulator just right.
"We're taking this seriously."
Aside from the personal opportunities the Eseries presents, Brown is also excited to be able to "give something to the fans".
"We (V8 Supercars) are lucky because we're in a position where we can still give something to the fans of our sport," he said.
"Real life racing is on hold for the moment, but through this we can give the fans something to get behind and be excited about.
"They (the fans) get to see something a bit different as well.
"We're actually going to be racing on two Formula 1 tracks, Silverstone and Barcelona, which I'm looking forward to.
"There's a lot of interaction between the drivers during the races.
"It's serious racing, but all the drivers are having fun with it as well.
"I'm not sure if that's a good thing, though. All the drivers are getting along really well, and it might be hard to put that aside when we go back to racing for real."
