CRICKET: The Toowoomba A-grade season recommences this weekend following the Christmas break, as teams look to press their finals claims over the next five rounds.

Western Districts currently hold pole position, 10 points clear of Metropolitan-Easts, with the Warriors needing to be at their best against a resurgent Highfields-Railways outfit.

The Bulldogs sit in fourth, but can finish the round as high as third.

After suffering their first loss of the season prior to the break against the ladder leaders, the Trojans will hope to avoid dropping another match and potentially out of second place when coming up against third-placed Northern Brothers Diggers.

Diggers had their best performance of the two-day season against University last month, highlighted by a Kris Glass century.

The weekend’s final match pits Southern Districts and University against each other, as both sides look to avoid sitting in last position coming into the final stretch.

University claimed a three-wicket first innings victory when the two sides met in the first round of the two-day season.

FIXTURES: Western Districts vs Highfields-Railways at Captain Cook Reserve, Northern Brothers Diggers vs Metropolitan-Easts at Rockville Oval, Southern Districts vs University at Middle Ridge Park. Games commence at 12.15pm today.

S TANDINGS: Western Districts 66.62, Metropolitan-Easts 56.23, Northern Brothers Diggers 49.75, Highfields-Railways 40.54, University 22.53, Southern Districts 16.52
