CRICKET: Darling Downs South West Queensland has experienced the highs and lows of elite junior cricket throughout the Lord’s Taverners competition this year.

Four wins and five losses has left them on the outside in terms of the finals, however the U16s side is hoping to end the season on a high in their final game tomorrow.

They host Northern Suburbs at Mills Oval, and coach Jason Fenwick said they will come into the contest with plenty of confidence.

“We played them in a trial match prior to the season and gave them a very good touch up,” Fenwick said.

“We’ve seen what they’ve got, but it’s obvious their side is clicking well, which is why they are sitting where they are (second) compared to us (sixth).

“They’re a good team, but they are beatable, and we’ll take a lot of confidence out of last weekend, and hopefully our batters can do the job.

“We haven’t won at Mills Oval yet, so we’d like to finish the year with a win in our last away game and last home game of the year.”

DDSWQ’s batsmen fired last weekend in a terrific showing against Sandgate-Redcliffe that saw them come away with a 59-run victory.

Tom Sippel provided one of the highlights of the season, finishing with a century.

“We’ve been wanting everything to click, and we changed up the order a bit,” Fenwick said.

“The boys really dug in, and Tom was able to score his maiden hundred, and Arshvir Singh, who we moved down in the order, took it in his stride and scored an awesome 50.

“The boys did everything I asked. They batted smart and finally posted a total that represents us well as a zone.

“Tom was very happy and chuffed. The boys showed what it meant for someone to have a century, and really got around him.”

HEAT STARTING TO FIRE UP

Warwick’s Delissa Kimmince and the Brisbane Heat will be looking to continue their hot run of form in their WBBL double header in Sydney this weekend.

It starts today when they clash with the Sydney Thunder at Drummoyne Oval, before backing up at the same venue to mix it with the Perth Scorchers.

Kimmince was unstoppable with the ball in the Heat’s latest win over the Melbourne Stars in St Kilda on Wednesday.

She finished with three wickets of her side’s four wickets, as Brisbane came away with a nine-wicket victory.
