RACING: Jackie Crompton is hoping for an early Easter treat at Clifford Park tomorrow night.
The Toowoomba trainer saddles up key contenders for the meet to continue a solid run of form for the stable.
Crompton has had four winners from her past 16 starters, and is hoping that one of her duo can add to that in the opening event on the card, the Hello Harry Benchmark 55 Handicap (870m).
Mocking is her leading hope, coming off a close-up second at the track and trip at her last outing on February 15.
“She’s been racing well,” Crompton said.
“There was a little bit of a setback after her last start which has seen her take a bit longer between runs.
“She had a jumpout though and worked well. They’ve given her a fair bit of weights but the claim for Alex (Patis) brings her into it pretty well and we expect her to race well.
“We thought she would’ve got out to 1200m, but she’s been more suited to the 800, 900 and 1000m trips.”
Boss’s Boy also lines up in the opener, and despite being first-up, Crompton said he will still be able to perform well.
“He jumped out last week as well,” she said.
“He suffered an injury and had six months out.
“I think he should race well, his jumpout was good.
“He does have a lot of weight, but over the 870m I don’t think it is that big of a deal, he’s big enough to carry it out.
“Boss’s Boy has won his maiden over the trip, but also at a mile two starts back, and I think he’ll be better suited by further.”
Another strong hope comes in the fifth race on the card, the Neil Mansell Transport Benchmark 55 Handicap (1300m).
Master Of Norway has only recently come into the care of Crompton after a previous stint with Mitchell Beer.
The change in scenery proved to make a big difference, with the five-year-old claiming his first two starts under new guidance at Kilcoy and Dalby.
He enters this race after finishing three lengths behind Make A Ruler at Warwick last month, and Crompton believes he can make amends tonight.
“I through him in at Warwick when the Toowoomba meet was cancelled due to coronavirus,” she said.
“I wanted to give him a run, and it wasn’t an overly suitable race, and then he drew wide.
“He was only beaten three lengths, and in hindsight it was a good run.
“He should be heard to beat tomorrow night.
“He was impressive at Dalby when he sat three wide the trip. He landed in front and looked like he might get beat, but he was able to win quite easily in the end.”
In a strong sign for the Toowoomba Turf Club, their races have needed to be extended for the second-straight meet.
Tonight’s program was originally set down for six races, however strong acceptances have resulted in it being extended to eight.
This follows on from eight races turning into 11 on Sunday.
Tomorrow night’s card begins with the first at 4.48pm with the last to jump at 8.45pm.
