HOCKEY: Hockey in the winter, cricket in the summer.
That’s how things have been rolling for Kane Bradford for the best part of a decade, scoring goals at will for Rangeville and knocking over batsmen for fun with Northern Brothers Diggers.
“They overlap a little bit when it goes from cricket season into hockey,” he said.
“Cricket can be in the finals with hockey starting early in the season, which is nearly the most important part of the year.
“Hockey definitely keeps you fit for cricket season.
“I’ve been doing it for 10 years now and it’s not too bad, it’s just what I do.”
Bradford has played at a high level in both sports, including training with Brisbane grade cricket sides last year.
The boilermaker puts in long hours at work, but remains open to taking his game further if he can.
“I was training down in Brisbane last year with UQ in first and second grade,” he said.
“It’s sort of hard this year because I’m working a lot more and have to weigh up what my options are with work and sport.
“I’m looking to go as far as I can in either sport if the opportunity arises.”
Bradford is expected to be a hot commodity come the Darling Downs Bush Bash League draft next month, and said he was once again looking forward to lining up in the Twenty20 competition.
“It’s good. It gives you something to look forward to on the weekends,” he said.
“Hopefully the season won’t be hindered too much by everything going on.”
Bradford made a strong return to the pitch during last weekend’s opening round of the COVID Cup at Clyde Park.
The Rangeville forward netted two goals in a tight loss but is just happy to be out doing what he loves once again.
“It was good to have a double. I missed one that probably could’ve won us the game,” he said.
“But it was good to get back out there. We had been waiting for a while now.”
Bradford and Rangeville will face a tough task against Red Lion tonight, the A1 defending champions.
Norths gets its first opportunity to play in 2020, taking on Past High in the other men’s fixture.
In the women’s COVID Cup, Rangeville looks to remain unbeaten against Red Lion, with Past High hoping for a similar fate when clashing with Norths.
