CRICKET: Round eight of the men’s Australian Country Cricket Championships has thrown a spanner in the works as sides push for a berth in Saturday’s final.
Queensland has kept its hopes of a finals spot alive after a convincing defeat over South Australia.
SA opted to bat first after winning the toss, however they were unable to find any answers for Toowoomba’s Cameron Brimblecombe, who produced his best figures of the carnival with 3/20, along with three wickets from Chris Stanger to dismiss the visitors to 169 from 43.3 overs.
After scoring 45 against Victoria the day prior, Toowoomba’s Sam Neale was given his shot at the top of the order, opening the batting along with Mitch English.
They logged an opening-wicket partnership of 78 before English’s dismissal for 37.
Neale kept the momentum going, hitting seven boundaries on his way to a knock of 63, helping Queensland to a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
