CRICKET: A staggering upset has thrown the men’s Australian Country Cricket Championships wide open approaching the final round.
Australian Capital Territory knocked off ladder leaders Western Australia at Mills Oval, opening the door for other states to try and push into the top two.
Posting a modest total of 123, the ACT bowling attack was able to get the job done, with a five-wicket haul to Brendan Duffy (5/11 from 10 overs) giving his state a 34-run victory.
Victoria took full advantage of Western Australia’s slip-up, taking up first position courtesy of a five-wicket defeat of South Australia.
Final round action will pit Victoria against New South Wales and Queensland to take on Western Australia, along with South Australia facing off with the ACT.
In women’s action, East-Asia Pacific will take on Queensland for a spot in Saturday’s final, while South Australia and New South Wales will play off for the remaining berth in the decider.
