Seven teens arrested over Toowoomba car thefts

BOYS as young as 14 will face Toowoomba Childrens Court today charged with a raft of car theft offences.

Most charges relate to cars stolen from Toowoomba and the Darling Downs earlier this week.

A 14-year-old male was charged with seven counts of burglary, three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, entering a premises with intent and trespass.

A 14-year-old male is charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of burglary and one count of possessing tainted property.

A 15-year-old male is charged with one count of burglary, one of receiving tainted property, one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of stealing.

A 16-year-old male is charged with one count of burglary, one count of receiving tainted property, one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and possessing tainted property.

A 15-year-old male was charged with two counts of burglary, three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and a possessing tainted property.

A 16-year-old male was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering a premises, burglary, obstructing police and two counts of wilful damage.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said many of the thefts involved the juveniles allegedly breaking into homes to steal the occupant’s car keys.

He reminded residents to remain vigilant, secure their property and not leave keys in the open, even if they are home.
