Further delays have held back the case of a man accused of manslaughter and involved in the death of East Lismore man Jesse Vilkelis-Curas.
Bryson Larsen-Tai, 19, fronted Lismore Local Court for a further committal appearance in regards to the 2019 case on Wednesday, appearing via video link.
The court heard from Larsen-Tai’s solicitor James Fuggle the proceedings had once again been delayed due to the case’s facts.
“The situations is the parties have been in negotiation but the fact sheet is extremely long and complex,” he said.
“We’re nearly there and counsel is speaking with each other but we require a bit more time.”
On his last May 13 mention, the court heard the matter was postponed due to the Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor being caught in another trial and unable to examine the details.
During that appearance, it was revealed the fact sheet was 10 pages in length.
At a committal mention at Lismore Local Court in May, Larsen-Tai pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
According to court documents, Larsen-Tai was allegedly involved in an altercation near Hill and Park Sts, East Ballina on December 23, 2019.
During the fight 24-year-old Jesse Vilkelis-Curas sustained “catastrophic head injuries”.
He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he died a few days later on Boxing Day 2019.
Magistrate Jeff Linden granted Larsen-Tai’s case an additional adjournment.
Larsen-Tai’s matter will be mentioned on July 28 in the Lismore Local Court.
He remains in Clarence Correctional Facility custody.
