OUR SAY: Expenses incurred by councillors is shocking

I HOPE I’m not the only one shocked at the expenses and travel costs incurred by our councillors as revealed in yesterday’s Chronicle.

I HOPE I’m not the only one shocked at the expenses and travel costs incurred by our councillors as revealed in yesterday’s Chronicle.

The total revealed was more than $330,000.

It seems to me all that money could be better used in a myriad of ways rather than providing nice interludes for our elected representatives.

I wonder if an international zero waste study tour of Denmark, England, Spain and the United States, costing $24,900 was really a judicious use of ratepayers’ money.

Perhaps a quick Google search or a couple of free Skype calls could have achieved the desired result.

While I admit that councillors have an at-times difficult job, I reckon these overseas jaunts would be grating on most ratepayers’ nerves.

Councillors are already well remunerated.

These trips look to me very much like a nice holiday away from Toowoomba.

Hopefully a closer look at these ratepayer-funded trips will result in a cut to next financial year’s travel costs and expenses.
