A HIGHLY successful program that is helping migrants across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs build the confidence to gain employment or kick start their own business has been extended for at least a further six months.

Groom MP John McVeigh said Canvas CoWorking's Zero to Start-up program would receive an additional $33,000 under the Federal Government's fostering integration grants program to continue working with motivated migrants in our community.

"Toowoomba has become a truly multicultural city, with migrants and refugees widely welcomed to our community," Dr McVeigh said.

"Under the Zero to Start-up program support will be offered to potential employees, business owners and entrepreneurs through mentoring, networking and training.

"This may include workshops on business related subjects such as social media, bookkeeping, employment laws and practices, as well as help in developing a business plan, and opportunities to participate in business networking events.

"There is also support for people looking for employment with help to develop resumes, write cover letters and to build confidence to attend job interviews."

Dr McVeigh said the program had been operating since early 2019 and had supported dozens of local migrants in our region.

"I am very pleased to see this program continue," he said.

"There have been more than 60 participants in the program over the last 12 months and many positive outcomes for individuals and our community."
