Last night to check out Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland

AFTER 17 evenings and more than 70,000 visitors, tonight is Toowoomba residents’ final chance to check out the amazing Christmas Wonderland exhibit.

AFTER 17 evenings and more than 70,000 visitors, tonight is Toowoomba residents' final chance to check out the amazing Christmas Wonderland exhibit.

The massive lights spectacular at Queen's Park, organised by the Lions Club of Toowoomba West, will be pulled down after the Christmas Eve showing.

Project co-ordinator Marshall Cox said the event attracted similar numbers to last year, despite fewer evenings.

"We had 7500 people last night, we've had over 70,000 people in there so far this year," he said.

"It would be in line with other years' totals, even though we're six nights shorter.

"We always start on the first Saturday in December, and last year it was on December 1, but this year was December 7.

"We anticipate it will be very similar numbers to previous years, but we're not sure if we're going to get a storm tonight.

"People are looking for something that's family-oriented, that's Christmas-themed and doesn't cost them a lot of money."

The project is expected to raise at least $80,000 for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation, the Toowoomba Hospice and Lifeline Darling Downs.

"We're certainly on track to meet our fundraising expectations," Mr Cox said.

"We normally give away between $85,000 and $90,000.

"As Lions, we just get in and do it, we don't go out seeking publicity, we just help the community where we can."

Mr Cox wanted to thank all volunteers who had helped out during the event.

The final Christmas Wonderland runs from 7pm until 10pm tonight.
