THE Toowoomba Regional Council has put forward plans for a new historical museum in the south of the region.
The proposal for the new Clifton Museum, slated for a 4000sq m piece of land on King St, was submitted to the council's planning department this week.
It comes after the previous museum, based in the old butter factory, was demolished this year after it was declared unsafe by the council in 2016.
According to BCERT Consulting town planner Lynette Prince-Large, the museum will employ three people and cater for 1500 annual visitors.
"The immediate surrounding land use area is generally commercial to the north, low impact industry to the south, residential in the major centre zone to the west across King St and low-medium density residential on the other side of the railway corridor and the other side of the major centre zone," she wrote.
"Because the museum is aimed at all of the people in Clifton and the surrounds, this is an appropriate development for the site."
A stormwater management plan was also submitted along with the planning report.
The planning department has yet to respond with more information in relation to the council's submission.
