THE Toowoomba Regional Council has endorsed the facade design for an upcoming library in a rapidly-growing community, after an overwhelming popular vote.
Councillors on Wednesday voted for one of two designs for the new Highfields Library, after the TRC put the concept art to a public vote.
According to project manager Nicholas Delany, the nearly 500 voters favoured option two by a large amount.
“Two facade options were presented to the community with both options providing a facility with the same provisions and core functionality,” he wrote in his report.
“The community was informed of the consultation process through a number of channels and were invited to provide their preference for the facade to be progressed into design and construction on the new facility.
“490 votes were received, with 403 online and 87 in paper format; option one received 99 votes (20 per cent), and option two received 391 votes (80 per cent).”
The library’s project art reference group was also endorsed during the motion, with Cr Megan O’Hara Sullivan joining environment and community portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia as the two councillor representatives on the body.
The other members were two council officers, along with Sally Johnson, Bronwyn Herbert and artist John Tobin.
