A TOOWOOMBA organisation that supports Australian Defence Force (ADF) families is one of many across Australia set to share in $1.5 million to deliver programs and services.

Groom MP Dr John McVeigh joined representatives from Toowoomba Defence Families Association yesterday to announce funding of $19,415 under the Federal Government's Family Support Funding Program (FSFP).

"I congratulate Toowoomba Defence Families Association, which I know will do great work supporting defence families in our region.," Dr McVeigh said.

"This vital group provides social and emotional support for Defence families posted to the Darling Downs with regular activities such as playgroup, craft mornings, workshops, book club, health and wellbeing programs and social events for the community.

"Defence families make significant sacrifices and this funding will go a long way to ensure they are supported and connected with the local community."

The funding provided through the FSFP is available to community organisations to deliver support and services of value to defence families and the community they live in.

The grants are managed by the Defence Community Organisation which provides a wide range of programs, information and assistance for defence families.

Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said defence families made incredible sacrifices.

"This funding contributed to a strong sense of community and a support network for those feeling the disruption and change from posting to a new location," Mr Chester said.

"These grants will support defence families' wellbeing and promote the sharing of ideas and information to help manage the demands of military life and allow families to settle into their local communities."
