THE $45 million Palm Lake Care Toowoomba aged care facility is just months away from welcoming its first resident.
Taking the helm as the service manager of the new offering from Palm Lake is Toowoomba's Tony McKenzie.
Mr McKenzie cut his teeth in community services before moving to aged care, where he has spent the last 15 years.
"Over my years working in aged care here, I was always aware of the Palm Lake name," he said.
"Palm Lake Resort is particularly significant here in Toowoomba for its excellent reputation so, needless to say, when I heard they were introducing an aged care branch, it piqued my interest."
Since being appointed as the service manager of the upcoming Palm Lake Care Toowoomba, Tony has already spent time immersed in life at Palm Lake Care's other locations.
While certain jobs have already been filled, Mr McKenzie said he would need approximately 180-200 staff to run the facility, which he was currently recruiting for.
Palm Lake Care Toowoomba will feature 146 beds, and has the potential to offer a 24 bed secure dementia unit.
Residents of the facility will be homed across five wings of 25 units each.
Mr McKenzie said he looked forward to welcoming the first resident on November 2.
He said the facility itself was designed to bring people together, with a number of communal spaces for residents to enjoy.
He also said Palm Lake was passionate about making sure its aged care offering worked.
"It's all about quality. I've looked over the rosters and the rosters are very generous - so they're looking at a better ratio of staff to residents, so that's appealing," he said.
"Having Palm Lake Resort Toowoomba right next door is a brilliant idea - reflective of all the stages of life.
"Offering this kind of care, which allows couples to stay together and families to have peace of mind, is the way of the future."
There are plans to allow people to tour the facility in the first and second weeks of October.
