CONSTRUCTION will start next month on a massive $5 million service station in Toowoomba's northern suburbs, supporting 30 construction jobs in the process.
The new servo, slated for the corner of Ruthven and Gregory Sts in Harlaxton, is expected to be open by March next year.
Toowoomba Regional Council approved the development in March.
Developer Robert Weymouth said the 2500 sqm site had already been cleared of remaining properties, and he was excited to see work start.
"It'll start at the end of September, the site has been cleared, so we should open in March," he said.
"It's probably going to be about 30 jobs on-site (during construction), and during operation I'm not sure how many employees, but normally about four or five.
"It's a Mobil distributor, Pearl Energy (who is the tenant) - he's got about 50 sites in NSW, but he recently took over several in Queensland, including Plainlands.
"He's having a big push into Queensland - I'm sure it will trade very well, so we're very happy to be long-term owners of this."
Mr Weymouth said he was taking advantage of a dearth in service stations heading southbound into Toowoomba from Highfields.
"The reason it's a good site is about 24,000 cars go past that site every day, (and) there's nothing on the left from Highfields (to Toowoomba)," he said.
"It's going to pick up a lot of the trade.
"The fuel operators have been looking at a site for a while, (so) I bought the three blocks.
"It's got a really good entry-exit on Ruthven St and all access turns on Gregory St.
"You can also do a U-turn on Ruthven St, so access is really good."
