EARLY construction work is well under way on a retirement village at the Toowoomba Golf Club, providing a financial boost to the city.
The Ninth Middle Ridge on Rowbotham St is being developed by Queensland retirement village provider and operator Aura Holdings within the historic golf club, which opened in 1896.
Earthworks have begun to relocate the tenth tee and the storage sheds for golf buggies, while construction has begun on an overflow carpark and a new access route from Rowbotham St. The carpark and buggy shed works are being carried out at a cost of $750,000 and all contractors and design consultants have been locally sourced.
Major building work will begin in April and construction is expected to be completed by the middle of 2021.
Experienced retirement village builder McNab has been appointed to the project with Cox Architecture.
Aura director Tim Russell said it was exciting to see the early works underway on the site. “Things are really starting to move now on this exciting project for Toowoomba,’’ he said.
“The development is delivering a boost to the Darling Downs, employing local contractors and the Toowoomba-grown company, McNab.
“The Ninth Middle Ridge is already having strong appeal to both golfers and retirees who want to live in such a beautiful, peaceful and tree-filled community.
“This is a much-anticipated development for Toowoomba Golf Club members, current residents who know and love the area and retirees who are attracted to Toowoomba’s lifestyle and facilities.’’
The Ninth Middle Ridge village will be built adjacent to the ninth hole, featuring 85 two, three and four-bedroom apartments that will have expansive views of the parkland golf course.
Residents will enjoy a maintenance-free lifestyle in the low-rise development of three and four-storey buildings with an unmatched level of community facilities, including a gym, billiards area, wine room, library, craft room, lounge, multipurpose function room, outdoor entertaining and barbecue areas.
Toowoomba Golf Club general manager David Marr said the development had created an air of excitement among members.
“Already the general conversation around the development is very positive and with some initial sales a good yardstick for the popularity of the project,’’ Mr Marr said.
“We feel that the setting and quality of the Aura Holdings’ project very fitting of the demographic of our members.
“We look forward to being able to host many of the incoming residents in our facility both on and off the course, with planning already underway for more casual and comfortable settings inside the club.’’
Members of the public are invited to attend the launch of The Ninth Middle Ridge on Wednesday, March 4, at 10.30am at the Toowoomba Golf Club. Morning tea will be provided.
