THE Toowoomba community space known for supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses and freelancers has reopened its doors as COVID-19 restrictions loosen.

Canvas Coworking on Ruthven St announced this week it was open again, after shutting its doors to all but a few people in late March.

The coworking space offers people not yet ready to move to a full office but wanting to move out of their house either a desk or an office for as long or as little as they want.

Community manager Joy Taylor said the building also hosts workshops, training sessions and classes.

"It can be casual, just to drop in and get some work done, or it could become their office where they come to work every day," she said.

"We have everything from software developers and engineers, graphic designers, writers, researchers, e-commerce people, IT and tech support, investment companies, all different types of people.

"We've got the desks and we've got 12 private or semi-private offices.

"We've had people who have been here for four years or more, since we opened."

Ms Taylor said the decision to shut was a difficult one, but necessarily in the circumstances.

"We had to make the tough decision to close because we wanted to help stop the spread," she said.

"We didn't want people coming together unnecessarily and most of our residents and tenants were able to work from home.

"Our office residents were still able to come as needed, and for some of them their businesses have survived quite well, but for others business has slowed.

"Prior to COVID-19, we had 25 people a day coming through the space and using it for coworking."
