QUESTIONS have been asked in parliament about a mysterious proposal for a north-south transport corridor between Toowoomba and Highfields.

Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts put a question on notice to Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey on Thursday, asking him about the department's "investigations into a north-south transport corridor to the west of Toowoomba".

The Chronicle last week reported the Charlton Sports Precinct Master Plan had been identified as being potentially impacted by the corridor.

But the department remained coy about what exactly was being considered, saying that it was unable to provide more information than it was looking into "the development of possible road options for traffic travelling north and south".

Mr Watts asked Mr Bailey to advise how many road options were being investigated by the department and for how long those routes had been under investigation, whether the department had a preferred road option and if so, what was it, how much money had been spent investigating each of the routes to date, and whether the department had considered a Boundary St - Old Goombungee Rd connection between Toowoomba and Highfields.

An answer is due back from the minister on October 12, but the Queensland parliament will be dissolved on October 6.
