ZIERA Shoes in the Toowoomba CBD has been Louise Jacka’s home away from home for more than 20 years, and her colleagues like a second family.
But long-time comfort shoe saleswoman will be forced to say goodbye to the Margaret St store at the end of the month, after Ziera announced it was closing all its shops.
Administrators for the company revealed it would shut all locations in Australia and New Zealand, putting its four Toowoomba employees out of work during the Christmas period.
Ms Jacka, who started work at Comfort Shoes 21 years ago before the shop was bought by Ziera, said the news had been a real shock.
“We were just devastated and heartbroken,” she said.
“We love our products, love fitting our shoes and seeing the smiles on the people’s faces.
“We had a great relationship with our customers, and they’re devastated — I’ve had customers that I’ve been serving for 21 years.
“This is our home and family, and now we have to go out and find new ventures.”
Manager Louise Grundon said the store was popular with customers who struggled to find comfort shoes or footwear that would fit orthotic soles.
“We have fantastic relationships with our customers, because so many have been so loyal,” she said.
“Our feedback from customers is that there’s not another orthotic brand in Toowoomba that offers different shapes.”
Ms Jacka echoed those concerns, saying many shoppers would struggle to find shoes to fit their needs now.
“Every customers is wondering where they are going to go. There’s no one really like us,” she said.
Ziera’s last day will be on December 28, with the store offering massive discounts on all remaining stock.
