THE owner of Toowoomba CBD rooftop bar George Banks says he is committed to reopening the venue soon.

High-profile publican and businessman Phil Coorey said the venue shutdown due to coronavirus had hurt him, along with many others in the industry.

But he said George Banks would be open to the public soon.

"We are committed to reopening it in the near future - there's a lot of stuff to work out first," Mr Coorey said.

Known in the past for hosting big-ticket events and bringing national touring bands to town, Mr Coorey said the shutdown had given him time to focus on his family.

"In the future, I'm committed to spending more time with family," he said.

"I've also taken some extra work to get through what is a very unpredictable time, in a completely different industry."

Mr Coorey and his business partner George Chebib opened the venue on top of the Bank redevelopment, on the intersection of Ruthven and Margaret Sts, in late 2018.

Along with drinking areas and views of the city, the bar also featured a dining area and full kitchen.
