TOOWOOMBA'S newest cinema is finally taking shape, with work progressing well on the V-Max theatre at Grand Central Shopping Centre on Margaret St.
The structure has finally gone up that will house the new space, which is part of BCC Cinemas' expansion and refurbishment plan at the shopping centre.
The new theatre will be the largest in the complex, providing stadium-style seating for 492 customers plus 12 wheelchair spaces.
Lead contractor Hutchinson Builders started construction back in March, with the project creating 260 jobs.
Grand Central centre manager Claire Torkington said she was excited to see the theatre expansion being realised.
"Hutchinson Builders have now completed the structural steel works, and the external facade and roof will be installed over the coming weeks," she said.
"Following that, the majority of the construction works will then move to the interior of the structure.
"As part of the development, a tower crane was installed on Grand Central's western rooftop to enable ease of materials handling.
"This will be in place until the end of June.
"External painting works are also planned to commence in the coming weeks."
Ms Torkington said completion was expected by the end of the year.
Hutchinson Builders team leader Sean Lees said the project was an example of how construction could be a boost for the Toowoomba economy during COVID-19.
"Toowoomba is fairly uniquely situated to deal with these sorts of issues because we have such a balanced economy," he said in April.
