Police have slapped fines on four Lennox Head beachgoers on Monday despite beaches reopening for exercise.

The coastal town north of Ballina has had at least eight fines for breaches of the public health order to people visiting the beach and nearby Lake Ainsworth.

One of the men fined on Monday was a visitor from Queensland, who had come to the beach to see his son.

The 60-year-old was taking photographs of the beach at the Pat Morton Lookout just after midday when he was approached by police, who gave the man a $1000 fine instead of a warning.

At the same spot police stopped a 31-year-old man who said he had come to the beach for a surf.

The man, from Byron Bay was also fined $1000 when police could not see a surf board.

Later on Monday police stopped two men in a van parked just up from the beach at Lake Ainsworth.

The men aged 23 and 27 said they were there for a swim, however when the driver couldn’t provide his licence police fined both the men for not following the public health order.

Riding a bike is also not an acceptable reason to be outside according to Griffith police, who fined a 28-year-old man $1000 for not having a reasonable excuse for being outside.

Among the other 27 fines and charges on Monday included a woman who spat at staff at a takeaway shop in Woy Woy.

The woman attempted to steals before being stopped by police, who fined the woman $5000.

A 16-year-old girl was fined at Central Station after she was caught by police hanging out with friends.
