Kyle Sandilands moves from Edgecliff to a pricey Bellevue Hill rental

KIIS FM’s popular breakfast radio host Kyle Sandilands and his pregnant fiancee are moving on from their Edgecliff home to a pricier postcode ahead of the arrival of their baby boy.

Common selling myths … busted

KIIS FM’s brash breakfast broadcaster Kyle Sandilands and his expectant fiancee Tegan Kynaston have taken up a pricey Bellevue Hill rental ahead of the arrival of their baby boy.

The Sell spotted their recently vacated Edgecliff rental abode return to the market following their shuffle from stately manor to modern Tuscan in Sydney’s east.

There were telltale signs of their occupancy with the Bellevue Hill garage complete with boxes of Nueva Sangria, the drink brand which teetotaller Sandilands established in 2019.

The hillside home, offered as an $8000-a-week rental, was billed as “the blending of luxury with Tuscan classicism”. It happened to have been recently sold which prompted some ill-informed speculation it had been a purchase by Sandilands.

The sale by Roy and Maria Metaxas for $13,808,900 was to investor Rosheeni Dobbie.

The home, with formal and casual living areas, has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, plus a high-end Calacatta marble kitchen and a temperature-controlled wine cellar.

There’s a vergola-covered indoor pool, which opens to a terrace with a northerly harbour view.

The home is kitted out with a smart home system, which Sandilands admitted to his KIIS listeners had been a struggle to get his head around. His electric blinds failed to work, with the sun beaming through the windows. Four tradies working from down the road apparently turned up to help out – helpfully changing the flat batteries of the remote.

Sandilands’ former rental in Edgecliff has just been relisted at $5500 a week.

Merdin, the seven-bedroom home, dates back to 1910. It has three levels, plus a pool in its 1094 sqm grounds. Michael Murray at Murray Property is handling the Edgecliff Rd rental again.

When it was last up for rent in mid-2020, Sandilands snapped it up at around $4950 a week.

Sandilands is set to relocate to a Hills district estate after his time at Bellevue Hill.

It follows his recent hush-hush purchase in the Hills.

He apparently intends to build a Hamptons-style home on the acreage.

He’s previously rented acreage with a Mediterranean-style home at Oxford Falls, and Symingtonia in Terrey Hills, which been previously rented by Channel 10 to film The Biggest Loser.

“In the past, I didn’t want to lock down anywhere because I wanted to be able to go and live in LA for a few years or maybe London,” he told James Manning at Media Week last month.

“I didn’t want to be handcuffed to the dream home.”

Moving on from Bronte beauty

Longtime TV host Osher Gunsberg has found a buyer for the Bronte investment apartment he co-owns with wife Audrey Griffen.

It had failed to sell at its recent auction, after which it was given a $2.15 million asking price. It cost $1.45 million just before they married in 2016.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment has been a rental investment, last available for lease, according to CoreLogic, at $1100 a week early last year.

It had also been available in early 2020, just before the pandemic, at $1200 a week.

The Rose St apartment was marketed as a “coastal lifestyle haven showcasing sparkling water views”.

It is a top-floor space in a late 1960s block with a northeastern aspect and windows on three sides.

The block of nine apartments is close to the Macpherson St cafe precinct.

The couple reside nearby, having paid $2,915,000 in 2019 for a four-bedroom semi that was bought shortly after selling another investment apartment for $1 million at Bondi Beach.

The couple met on the set of The Bachelor in 2014, where she was a freelance make-up artist.

After nine seasons in NSW, the Gold Coast will host the upcoming dating show.

Gunsberg, who had been co-host of Australian Idol on Network 10 in 2003, is among the presenters at this year’s Logies.

Swell destination for surfing family

Luke Stedman, the former pro surfer, and his partner Darsan O’Connor are off to the Northern Rivers along with their two young children, where they will be joining his father, surfing legend Shane Stedman.

It means their Avalon Beach home is up for auction on July 23 with a $2.375 million price guidance through McGrath Pittwater agent James Baker.

It is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home on a 1549sq m holding, with ocean and Pittwater vistas, on the Bangalley Headland.

Their 9ha Lennox Head district destination will be “something like a contemporary commune”.

“We’ve recently moved back from LA and we wanted the kids back into nature,” he told The Sell.

“It’s an awesome place for all ages of surfers. The water’s so crisp and clear.

“It’s been a beautiful adventure so far; super fun.”

It was back in 2003 when he earned Rookie of the Year honours on the ASP World Tour circuit.

In May last year his father Shane, not only a surfing great, but also an Ugg boot industry pioneer, sold his Hillcrest Ave, Mona Vale home of almost five decades through Baker.

It fetched $5.306 million with six registered bidders competing after its initial $4.1 million price guide. It sold to a Singapore-based expatriate.

He has since spent $3.3 million at Fernleigh, near Bangalow, on what had been a 1450 macadamia tree hobby farm with rainforest.

It had last sold in 2015 at $1.04 million.

Emdur’s chase down nice return

Channel 7 compere Larry Emdur and wife Sylvie have pocketed $4.3 million from the sale of their redundant home in The Rocks.

The warehouse conversion sold before auction through their estate agent son Jye Emdur.

The 1924 Rocks warehouse apartment had been bought for $3.19 million back in 2017 after their Dover Heights clifftop home was purchased by accountant Anthony Bell for a record-setting $11.5 million.

Set on Gloucester St near the southern end of the Harbour Bridge, the Tanner Kibble Denton Architects-designed apartment combines the original fabric of the building with a luxury New York feel. The apartment has two bedrooms, which have open ensuites.

It has been bought by Cutcher & Neale accountant Phillip Smith and his wife Kristy.

The host of Seven’s The Chase Australia and co-host of The Morning Show, Emdur is off to live in a Darling Point apartment that was bought from Naomi Penny, widow of Professor Ron Penny, the pioneer of clinical immunology who died in 2019.

The whole floor 200sq m-plus opulent apartment cost $7.351 million.

Emdur plans to launch his memoir, Happy As, in August, which looks back at him growing up in Bondi, going surfing, getting sunburnt and eating Chiko Rolls – along with his accidental path to TV hosting.

A strong offer to secure wellness estate

Hercules, the wellness estate of Deborah and Robert Wild in the Byron Bay hinterland, has gone under offer three weeks before its scheduled auction.

The mooted $22 million Coopers Shoot offer equals the shire’s residential record, set when Rip Curl founder Brian Singer paid $22 million on Wategoes Beach for recruitment industry veteran Geoff Morgan’s retreat in 2020.

It also exceeds last year’s $18.5 million priciest acreage sale when the River Hawk Ranch in Brunswick Heads was sold to Helen Sali, wife of former Swisse vitamin company chief Radek Sali.

The Wilds bought the 5.6ha property from music producer Tom Misner (inset) for $7.9 million in 2014 in what was then a hinterland record.

The Coopers Shoot Rd estate comes with two residential dwellings and three commercial premises, with conference facilities and a film and music recording studio.

The Wilds are best known for establishing The Australian College of Massage, and as co-directors of Evolve College school of massage training.

Huge reno a no-go

The rag trading families had bought the duplex from the impresario Michael Edgley for $5 million in 1984.

Edgley had paid $520,000 in 1981 for the 1800sq m property.
