Kristina Keneally moves into Fowler electorate in Sydney’s south west

Kristina Keneally has officially moved from her family’s secluded Scotland Island hideaway on Sydney’s northern beaches to a new home in the south western Sydney electorate of Fowler.

Keneally's ‘red carpet ride’ into federal parliament could cost Labor at the election

Labor candidate Kristina Keneally has officially become a western Sydney local after moving in to new designer digs in the south western Sydney electorate of Fowler.

The Sunday Telegraph has been asked by Ms Keneally’s staff not to disclose the exact location of the residence for security reasons.

However, the address is the talk among well-connected locals who note how the Keneally’s have not strayed too far from the water.

Ms Keneally moved in to the property with her husband Ben a month ago, relocating from the couple’s secluded Scotland Island hideaway on Sydney’s northern beaches more than 40km away.

It is understood the couple plan to spend Christmas at the property, which they have been renting. One local Labor source joked how the Keneally’s could “technically” sail from their bush island to the property.

“It’s literally a gondola ride,” the source said.

Another local source said Ms Keneally had been seen more frequently in the area, prompting speculation that she had moved to the area.

“I’m not surprised she has moved as we have been seeing her more,” the source said.

“I think the locals really like her.”

The relocation comes as Labor prepares to step up its campaign ahead of the upcoming federal election with Fowler — with a margin of 14 per cent — among the seats it can count on securing.

Ms Keneally faced internal criticism after the party chose to parachute her in to the seat instead of holding a rank and file preselection.

Retiring MP Chris Hayes had publicly backed Vietnamese-Australian lawyer Tu Le to replace him in the electorate, where 15 per cent of residents are of Vietnamese descent.

Among Ms Keneally’s potential rivals could include high profile independent Fairfield City Councillor Dai Le, who was voted in as deputy mayor at the recent local government elections.

Ms Le was among 10 independents voted in on the council - including long-serving Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone - with Labor councillors reduced from six to three.

When approached, Ms Le declined to comment.
