THE woman accused of driving into a family holidaying from Hong Kong while allegedly texting and twice the legal alcohol limit is the estranged wife of former Parramatta Eels CEO Denis Fitzgerald.

Lisa Mottram, 55, was allegedly driving north along Hezlett Road, close to her Kellyville home before she veered metres from the road and collided with four people standing on the side of the road.

Police allege a “dangerous combination” of texting behind the wheel and drink driving led to an accident involving four people, including a four-year-old girl in Sydney’s Northwest last night.

They also allege she was sending multiple text messages while driving and had a blood alcohol reading of 0.113.

Mottram is accused of hitting a family of four from Hong Kong who are currently on holiday in Australia, including a four-year-old girl who is in a critical condition.

The girl’s mother, 44, father, 45, and aunty, 55, are all in a stable but serious conditions in hospital.

Ms Mottram — who was once married to the former NRL CEO Mr Fitzgerald — was granted provisional bail to appear in court in October.

Today, locals said the stretch of road was in dire need of a kerb, gutter and footpath.

“It’s a nightmare,” she said. “It is very dangerous trying to get across the road.

“I have grandchildren and I lock the doors when they are here for that reason.”

She said a kerb, gutter and footpath should have been installed along the side of the busy road years ago.

Inspector Katie Orr labelled texting behind the wheel and drink driving as a “very dangerous combination.”

“It’s extremely dangerous … it always takes your attention away from driving,” she said.

The driver was slapped with seven charges including dangerous driving, mid-range drink driving and misusing a mobile phone.

Emergency services were called to the scene of an accident on Hazlett Rd at Kellyville shortly after 9.30pm.

The four pedestrians injured in the accident were taken to Westmead Hospital.
