A young mother and her two children, all killed when their car crashed on the Hume Hwy at Menangle Park, have been farewelled in an emotional ceremony on Friday.
Katrina Prahastono, 34, her two-year-old son Kai and three-month-old Ivy were laid to rest in touching scenes at Narellan.
Ms Prahastono’s husband Ian, in a show of strength, held back tears as he carried her coffin and placed her in her final resting place.
Only did he shed a tear when mourners and family came to comfort him.
Several wept and became more emotional as the coffins of young Ivy and Kai were walked into the cemetery to join their mother.
Mr Prahatsono broke his silence on social media hours before the funeral, revealing the toll the last few days have had on him.
“As hard as this is to accept, I do take comfort knowing that she (Ivy) will be in the perfect hands of her mother and with the warm company of her big brother,” he wrote.
“I don’t think I could ever put into words the pain I feel from losing my whole world. I am so lost and trying my best to find a purpose in life once more, but despite being physically, emotionally and spiritually battered, I’m holding on to my faith and will continue to move forward one step at a time.
“I have so many people and organisations to express gratitude to and will do so when I’m in a better mindframe, but my focus today is to bury my wife and children so they can continue their peaceful journey to the heavens.
“As Katrina always said to me “with every hardship there will come ease” and I will take her words to the heart. I do hope I find peace and look forward to the day I am reunited with my family inshallah.”
The funeral, heartbreakingly, comes a day before they were supposed to be planning a celebration for their newborn baby girl.
Baby Ivy died in her father’s arms 36 hours after she was pulled from the wreckage in western Sydney on Monday. Ms Prahastono and son Kai were pronounced dead at the scene.
The young mum was running errands for the traditional Islamic celebration – an aqiqah – when her car was T-boned by a truck while her car was doing a U-turn in an emergency bay.
The party is a Muslim ceremony held after the birth of a child to welcome a healthy baby into the family.
A fundraiser has been set up to support Ms Prahastono’s husband and has already raised more than $121,000.
“It’s unfathomable … Kat was incredible. There’s really no one else like her … she was so excited for her daughter’s aqiqah,” a relative told the Telegraph this week.
“We were all meant to be going to their place on Saturday.”
