Jordan Thompson: $100,000 reward sparks response over toddler’s death in 2005

POLICE have been contacted in recent weeks with information from several people over the poisoning death 10 years ago of baby Jordan Thompson following the posting of a $100,000 reward.

POLICE have been contacted in recent weeks with information from several people over the poisoning death 10 years ago of baby Jordan Thompson following the posting last month of a $100,000 reward.

Jordan’s mother Bernice Swales said yesterday she hoped the phone calls and a new inquest starting on Monday will finally give her justice over the death of her 21-month-old baby boy.

“I desperately hope this inquest can get to the truth about what happened to Jordan,’’ she said.

“He was a beautiful, warm child and I miss him so much. He had his whole life before him, which has been stolen.’’

Police said Jordan died while in the care of her former partner Cecil Kennedy.

“We were just splitting up and he asked me to come over to his unit with my children to play with his,’’ Ms Swales recalls.

“At the time we lived in the same block. I then went to the corner shop to get some brown vinegar and took his kids and left Jordan there with another boy. Jordan was asleep at the time.

“I wish I could turn back time and hold him again.’’

When she returned her little boy was unconscious and she applied CPR before carrying him in her arms across the road to Singleton Hospital, near where she lived, but he was pronounced dead soon afterwards.

At the time Mr Kennedy told police he had put Jordan in the bath and returned a short time later to find him not breathing.

An autopsy revealed Jordan’s death was as a result of ingesting a lethal dose of an antidepressant drug.

In 2009 he was charged with the manslaughter of Jordan but the charges were dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Kennedy has always maintained he is innocent of all wrongdoing.

“There have been a few calls since the $100,000 reward was announced in October,” Detective Sergeant Paul Quigg, the officer in charge of the investigation, told The Daily Telegraph.

“We are still accessing the calls and the information that was passed on. It’s still not too late to contact us and I believe there are people out there who may know more about Jordan’s death.’’

The inquest is set down for three days at Glebe Coroner’s court.
