IT started out as farewell drinks for the boys but ended with a deputy prison governor and several senior managers under investigation after the night spiralled out of control.

Former acting John Morony Correctional Centre deputy governor Malcolm Brown and 11 fellow officers organised a night out in Penrith as part of a change of management at the medium-security jail.

The group is understood to have started last month’s Thursday night get-together at the Bavarian Bier Cafe before seeking a new venue nearby.

A prison source said they turned up to the Red Cow Inn, where a scuffle broke out after the bouncer allegedly refused some of the men entry.

“One of them clocked the bouncer and the others tried to charge past him,” the source said.

A staff member from the Red Cow Inn said the bouncer was injured after being punched in the face.
