Joan Ellen Smith, 91, was due to front Burwood Court on Monday, five months after the

17-year-old Carlingford High School student died after he was walking near Carlingford Court shopping centre at Rembrandt St.

Emergency services were called to the site about 11.15am on December 1 after reports a car had left the road and hit two teenage boys walking on the footpath.

Ryde police and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and rendered assistance but Calvin died at the scene.

Her matter was listed at court on Monday when she was excused from appearing. The matter was adjourned to June 26.

At his funeral at St Gerard Majella’s Catholic Church in December, Calvin’s older sister Ovindi praised her brother as “handsome, brilliant, athletic”.

“You had a short life but a tremendously beautiful one,’’ she said.

“Though your life was only 17 years long, you have touched the hearts of hundreds of people.
