Jarryd Hayne charge with second count of sexual assault
Former rugby league star Jarryd Hayne has been charged with a second count of aggravated rape against a woman he is accused of assaulting on NRL Grand Final night in the NSW Hunter.
Former rugby league star Jarryd Hayne has appeared in court to face a second count of aggravated sexual assault against a woman in NSW’s Hunter Valley.
Dressed in a dark suit and white shirt the 31-year-old appeared briefly at Newcastle Local Court today as his matter was mentioned and adjourned until next month.
Police allege Hayne caught a taxi to a woman’s home in the Newcastle area between 8pm and 10pm on NRL grand final night last year.

Police further allege Hayne ripped off the 26-year-old woman’s clothes off and bit her on her genitals, drawing blood.
The woman sought treatment at hospital the following day.
The two time Dally M medallist was charged in November with aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm.
He was charged today with a second count of aggravated sexual assault against the same woman over the alleged incident on September 30.
The new charge sheet tendered at court alleged Hayne sexually assaulted the woman and at the time of the offence did “recklessly inflict actual bodily harm to the said 26yo (sic) female known to police”.
The previous charge alleged Hayne had “sexual intercourse with a 26-year-old female known to police, without her consent … knowing that she was not consenting to the sexual intercourse in circumstances of aggravation”.
His lawyer Leo Premutico confirmed the new charge had been laid against Hayne and asked for two changes to his bail conditions, involving his residential address and where he would report to police.
Magistrate John Chicken granted the bail variation, which allows Hayne to charge his address — listed on court documents as being in Broadbeach, Queensland — and his reporting conditions.
Hayne has not entered a plea to either charge but Mr Premutico has previously said the ex-league star “maintains his innocence” and would enter a plea of not guilty.
The aggravated rape charge carries a maximum 20-year jail term if Hayne is convicted.
He is also facing civil legal action in the US over claims he raped a woman during his time at the San Francisco 49ers NFL team in 2015.
Police declined to charge Hayne after investigating that allegation, and the woman involved lodged a civil suit.
