Gladys Berejiklian’s top ministry members have been ordered to hand over documents as the ICAC corruption probe into her ex-boyfriend Daryl Maguire continues.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Environment Minister Matt Kean have all received notices from ICAC investigators, demanding they hand over files that relate to an investigation into former Wagga Wagga MP Maguire, The Australian reports.

ICAC has asked for documents from Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Energy and Environment Minister Matt Kean for its investigation into disgraced MP Daryl Maguire.
ICAC has asked for documents from Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Energy and Environment Minister Matt Kean for its investigation into disgraced MP Daryl Maguire.

Maguire, who quit politics in 2018, confessed to a raft of corruption charges and is being investigated for using his ministerial position for financial gain.

Mr Barilaro, Mr Perrottet and Mr Kean are not under investigation and there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on their part, only that ICAC is seeking paperwork from across the government.

None of the ministers’ offices would comment, and an ICAC spokeswoman said: “The commission has no comment.”
The investigation, which was due to wrap up this year, is now likely to see investigators probe how cabinet ministers’ decisions allowed Mr Maguire to lock down grants.

A source told The Australian an expenditure review committee where $5.5 million was granted for the Australian Clay Target Association’s headquarters in 2017 and six grants of $40,000 were given to Maguire’s electorate from the Premier’s self-controlled discretionary fund could be key examples of what investigators are looking for.

ICAC began handing out section 22 orders for relevant documents and files across the Premier’s government, including to her office staff and Department of Planning, Industry and Environment officials recently, according to The Australian.

It comes as the Premier revealed she had been in a relationship with Maguire for several years during an ICAC inquiry hearing into the ex-politician’s corruption while in office.
