Aberglasslyn trail bike tragedy: witnesses battle in vain to save rider

A trail bike rider in his 20s who collided with a 17-year-old driver in the Hunter Valley died at the scene despite attempts from witnesses to save him.

A trail biker in his 20s who collided with a 17-year-old driver in the Hunter Valley died at the scene despite attempts from witnesses to save him.

The bike rider collided with the silver Nissan Dualis at the intersection of McKeachie Drive and Oakhampton Rd at Abberglassyn, near Maitland at 7.30pm on Friday.

Witnesses rendered first aid to the rider before the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics but he died at the scene.

The driver and single occupant of the other vehicle – a silver Nissan Dualis – a 17-year-old female – was not injured and was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
