A passer-by who tried to intervene was also allegedly assaulted but not before the shirtless driver was tackled into a fence. He then got back into the Volkswagen and drove away from the scene with the women still inside.

Reports to police said the Volkswagen was then seen travelling on the wrong side of the road on William Street heading towards the city, before later being seen travelling along Bunnerong Rd, Kingsford.

Following inquiries from Kings Cross police, the NSW-registered Volkswagen was found to have been stolen from Morriset on Saturday July 4, before also being seen driving erratically in Campbelltown on Thursday, July 9.
