New South Wales ultimately voted the proposed change to the constitution down, with the No vote particularly strong in regional areas of the state.

The strongest rejection of the referendum was expressed in the seat of Parkes, the state’s largest electorate, where the No vote was 78.78 per cent.

A vote over 70 per cent was also recorded in Paterson, Hunter, Calare, Riverina, Hume, Lyne, Farrer and New England.

But despite the state-wide trend, 10 of NSW’s 47 federal electorates voted Yes with two of them, Sydney and Grayndler, polling over 70 per cent.
