Childcare worker taken to hospital with stab wounds at Padstow

A childcare worker has been rushed to hospital after she suffered stab wounds on her way to work as she walked from Padstow railway station.

A Padstow childcare worker who suffered a stab wound to the stomach is in a stable condition in hospital.

NSW Police issued a statement saying there is no ongoing threat to the public after the 39-year-old employee arrived at Mini Masterminds childcare centre on Banks Street on Thursday morning with a stab wound.

Police were told the woman sustained the injury at a nearby train station, before making her way to a childcare centre, about 8.40am.

“She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Bankstown Hospital in a stable condition,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Initial inquiries by Bankstown Detectives have established there is no ongoing threat to the public. Investigations continue.”

The Daily Telegraph understands the injuries may have been self-inflicted.

The incident caused panic among parents and the local community who learned about the stabbing on social media.

“Does anyone know what’s going on at the childcare behind Padstow station? Heaps of cop cars and ambulance. Scary to see. Hope everyone is OK,” a post on a community group read.

One parent said she had called the centre and been assured all staff and children were safe.

“An educator apparently got assaulted on her way to work. ... cops and ambos there, no one else hurt,” another person wrote.

The childcare was closed while police investigated the attack.
