Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg’s plea to save Moore Park Golf Course

Movie star Mark Wahlberg has made an impassioned plea to save Moore Park Golf Course during a round at the iconic club while taking a break in filming his new movie. WATCH THE VIDEO.

The efforts to save Moore Park have A-list celebrity help after Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg threw his support behind the movement.

The actor and Wahlburgers chain founder took time this weekend during a round at the iconic Golf Club to rally for support.

“I know I am not a citizen of Australia but I am pleading to you to save Moore Park Golf Club,” he said in a video on Saturday.

“It’s been here for over 100 years, it’s been giving people hundreds and hundreds of years of pleasure and joy.

“Just people being able to come out and get a nice healthy walk, spend quality time together with family and friends.

“Please I’ve seen lots and lots of parks and I haven’t seen too many lovely public golf courses like this that have access for everybody. Please save Moore Park Golf Club.”

It comes after the State Government announced in October last year it would split the course in half, repurposing 45 hectares of the site from 2026.

About 20 hectares of that will be carved off from the club and turned into a public park to give space for grassroots sports and recreation.

The course has long been in the sights of politicians, with the likes of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and ex-premier Bob Carr lobbied to have the land annexed down the years.

Wahlberg touched down on his private jet in Australia in late February and has been spotted around Sydney in the weeks since. Wahlberg is believed to be here shooting a new movie
