A 10-year-old dog has had a pawesome experience after having her own private walk through Sydney’s train tunnels and onto the Harbour Bridge rail line on Thursday.

Heidi the spoodle took going off leash to a new level when she found herself on the North Shore train line as busy commuters waited for her to finish her morning stroll.

Travellers first noticed the canine at 8.30am at Wollstonecraft, which was followed by a one hour rescue mission by Transport for NSW officers who tried to get the dog off the tracks and get trains moving once again.

However, Heidi was in no rush to cut her walk short as she sped through North Sydney stations, through to Milsons Point and onto the Harbour Bridge.

Heidi was not ready to give up her private tour and decided to go for another lap on the Harbour Bridge before making her way to Waverton station an hour later, where about 9.30am, she was rescued.

Sydney Trains Chief Executive Matt Longland was stunned by the speed of the dog during her adventure.

“It was a fast little dog, it ran across the Sydney Harbour Bridge twice,” he said. “The good news is that Heidi the Spoodle was rescued safely.

Heidi’s owner was also thrilled to have her pet back.

“I just want to say a huge thanks to Sydney Trains, and the Rail Fire Emergency Unit who actually drove me and Heidi home,” she said

“I also want to apologise to everyone like me who was held up by this whole incident this morning.”

Premier Chris Minns later posted on Facebook, praising rail workers who “performed this paw-fect rescue”.
