Heartfelt plea to bring young Aussie home from Bali after ‘terrible accident’

Family and friends of a Newcastle woman have made a desperate appeal for help as she fights for life in a Bali hospital.

A young woman from Newcastle is in intensive care after she suffered a brain aneurysm while on holiday in Bali as her family and friends scramble to pay for emergency transport to bring her home.

Rebecca Ode, 36, suffered a “terrible accident” in Bali and was rushed to Ngoerah General Hospital for brain and eye reconstructive surgery. She is listed in a critical but stable condition.

Ms Ode has been described by friends as a “strong and caring, daughter, aunty and friend who urgently needs to be medically evacuated from home to Bali for ongoing treatment.”

“Bec’s family are by her side in Bali and while her recovery journey is unknown we know Bec will continue fighting her best fight with her strong will and determination,” the GoFundMe statement read.

There are fears Ms Ode may lose permanent sight of her eye.

“Bec is currently having surgery. But, the biggest concerns are for the brain haemorrhage that she suffered and that she is expected to lose her sight or lose an eye and her face won’t be the same after reconstructive and plastic surgery.”

The Ode family have been smashed with medical bills of more than $50,000 but are expecting the expenses to rise to $250,000 as they try to bring her home.

“As you can imagine, there are bills over $50,000 for the first few days, we are asking for your help to help her family get her back to Australia,” the statement continued.

“Once there is clearance to get her onto a plane, it’s expected a flight to Sydney and transfers to Newcastle to be more than $120,000.

Once home Bec is likely to have a long journey of rehabilitation. We are estimating it will be close to $250,000 just to get back to Australia.”
