Guy Sebastian focus back on music in bid to end dispute captured on video

A filmed dispute between singer Guy Sebastian and his neighbour shows the tension between the men before the matter ended up in court — and the damaged fence that became a point of contention. WATCH IT

Dramatic footage has emerged of the heated dispute that sparked the long-running feud between Guy Sebastian and his neighbour, as the pop star vows to put the damaging saga to bed and focus on his music.

In the edited video, which appears to be filmed by Sebastian on a mobile phone, the pop star films the damaged fence at the centre of the feud as he accuses his neighbour Phillip Hanslow of “hacking away at the already rendered fence”.

Mr Hanslow responds “Go f … yourself” to which Sebastian replies: “Look at him, this is how he talks every time”.

Mr Hanslow walks towards Sebastian and says “what are you gonna do about it” to which Sebastian responds “mate get out of my face”.

Mr Hanslow then walks towards his neighbour and responds with “Get out of your face? What are you gonna do about it?”

Sebastian then says “Always the same, nothing mate, you’re an old man, I’m not gonna take an old man” before the footage abruptly ends.

An unedited version of the video ends with Mr Hanslow appearing relaxed and resuming his building work before he says “Tried to see you in person, the diplomatic way to try and fix the fence …”.

The video then cuts out.

On Saturday, a spokeswoman for Sebastian provided a statement to the Sunday Telegraph.

“I’m sure both parties are glad for this to be behind them now”,” she said.

“The police felt it was appropriate to place an AVO against the neighbour and we’re thankful for their support in keeping the community safe.

Guy Sebastian said he would make no further comment on the dispute.

“Guy has no further comment on this matter and is focusing on creating new music and his mentoring role for The Voice.”

Last week police dropped the charges against Sebastian’s neighbour in a sensational final chapter for the bitter fight.

Mr Hanslow had been charged with escalating a long-running feud between the neighbours by allegedly intimidating Sebastian outside their Maroubra homes on January 23.

On Wednesday, Mr Hanslow’s lawyer Bryan Wrench told Waverley Court that the charges had been withdrawn.

Police requested an interim apprehended violence order to protect Sebastian, which prohibits his neighbour from contacting, approaching or harassing the pop star or entering his property.

The court heard the AVO will be continued for four more months as a final order by consent.

The alleged death threats were believed to be the fiery finale to six years of tensions between the neighbours, which were sparked when Mr Sebastian and his wife Jules were building their home.

The couple bought their $3.1m home in Maroubra in 2013 and spent nearly three years overhauling it to create their “fortress-like” house.

Mr Hanslow claimed that the extensive building works created “a massive amount of friction” in the neighbourhood.

He said their fight had arisen from $2 worth of damage to his shared fence with Mr Sebastian, which has since been mended.

The Sunday Telegraph attempted to contact both Sebastian and Mr Hanslow at their homes on Saturday but neither were available.
