A real estate agent has discovered guns and ammunition inside an empty house after chasing a tenant over unpaid rent.
The agent went to the unit on Rochester St in Botany at the end of June to speak to the tenant, signed the lease on the property since October last year, about an outstanding rental bill.
When the agent got inside, he allegedly spotted the firearms and ammunition, and called police.
Officers arrived and found five guns — including two rifles, a shotgun, two handguns — and a large amount of ammunition scattered around the property.
South Sydney Police Area Command officers have seized the guns and are now trying to track down their owner.
“It’s very concerning to police that these firearms have been found inside a suburban home and we are grateful that they are now off the streets,” Inspector David Parker said.
“Detectives would welcome any information from the public as our inquiries continue.”
Police released details of a man who could assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, about 180cm tall, with a large build, and has black hair, black beard and brown eyes.
