Bikies in Australia: A short history

A Bandidos bikie clubhouse has been dismantled, with police shutting down an alleged illegal puppy farm and a bootleg booze ring — and coming across a plate of cupcakes tastefully decorated in the club’s colours and adorned with their gun-toting skull logo.

When officers from the feared Strike Force Raptor unit, responsible for disrupting outlaw motorcycle gang activity, raided a Bandidos clubhouse in the state’s central west on Friday they allegedly discovered an array of illegal items, including firearms, ammunition and an illicit booze ring.

They even uncovered what they believe is an illegal puppy farm set up.

But in a bizarre and tasty twist, police have revealed they had also earlier found the cupcakes, which had been lovingly baked by a bikie’s wife for one of the chapter’s weekly meetings last year.

They may not have been the tastiest, however, as there were about half-a-dozen cupcakes still left over when Strike Force Raptor raided the property, which was supposed to be a secret clubhouse.

“They tried to set it up in secret,” a law enforcement official said.

Officers have only just released the cupcake pictures alongside other items which were seized in raids on Friday morning. They give a rare glimpse into the headquarters of a country bikies chapter.

Inside the stronghold at Belgravia Rd, Molong, police found a mural of Ned Kelly in a motorcycle vest with Bandidos patches next to a sign saying “expect no mercy”, and a motorbike helmet emblazoned with the phrase “jail fund” across the visor.

Police also seized two firearms, ammunition and a replica firearm in related searches on homes in Eurimbla and Orange.

Investigations under Strike Force Birrewa are continuing, and officers said charges were expected to be laid in relation to the seized firearms.
