A 17-year-old boy has been arrest and is expected to be charged after a police car was allegedly stolen near Gundagai and cops involved in an hour long pursuit.

About 9.10am on Saturday a NSW Police caged truck was seen being driven along Muttama Rd at Coolac, allegedly driven by a teenage boy.

NSW Police said a pursuit was initiated, but was terminated due to safety concerns.

The police car was followed through a number of rural and main roads surrounding Gundagai and within Gundagai township before it stopped in a park and the youth in the ute was arrested about 10.55am.

The boy was subjected to a roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he allegedly returned a reading of 0.09.

Police said a highway patrol sedan and two police vehicles were damaged in the incident.
