TWO men have been charged with threatening to kill Deputy Premier Troy Grant and his family over the government’s decision to ban greyhound racing.
Police arrested the men on the weekend after threats were allegedly made by phone to the office of Troy Grant, who is also police minister. Threats were also allegedly made to burn down one of his staff member’s homes.
The two men, aged 22 and 31 are members of the greyhound industry.
It’s claimed the threats were made in a series of phone calls last week.
“Police from Orana Local Area Command have been investigating several threatening calls made during the past week,’’ a police spokesman said today
“Following inquiries, police attached to Canobolas Local Area Command on Saturday arrested two men at Molong. They were taken to Orange Police Station where detectives travelled from Dubbo and charged both men.’’
The 22-year-old has been charged with use carriage service to threaten to kill, and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.
A 31-year-old man has been charged with use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.
Both were given strict conditional bail to appear in Orange Local Court on Monday 5 September 2016.
Mr Grants office is not commenting at the moment and referred all enquiries to NSW Police.
